Ankle Pain

Can Physical Therapy Help My Achilles Tendinitis?

The Achilles tendon, located near the heel on the back of the leg, helps you run, jump and walk.  When it becomes damaged or injured, you will start to feel pain in the back of the heel and calf.

Achilles tendon injuries often start out as Achilles tendinitis.  This often occurs as a result of overusing the tendon.  Symptoms include burning  and pain on the back of the leg by the heel, swelling, stiffness, and sometimes, a small bump will form.  We often see an influx of these injuries in the spring as people begin to get more active after our long winters!

Our therapists at MOMENTUM are trained to treat this condition by identifying the cause of your tendonitis, delivering hands on therapy, and providing specific exercises to heal your injured tendon.

If Achilles pain is creeping into your life and limiting your ability to walk, run or play sports, don’t wait! Call MOMENTUM Physical Therapy today at 403-982-5600.

Sciatica & Low Back Pain

What is Sciatica?

Sciatica often refers to any type of pain that travels down the back of the leg. This pain follows along the pathway of the largest nerve in the body, the sciatic nerve, which starts in the lower back and extends down both legs.

While there is no single cause of sciatica, we know that dysfunction in the low back, hips, groin, or legs can contribute to this pain.  Sciatica can vary widely from a mild ache to excruciating pain to tingling and numbness to a severe burning sensation.

Physiotherapy is a very effective tool to manage and resolve any sciatica.

To treat sciatica, your physiotherapist will need to complete a comprehensive physical assessment to determine the root cause of your sciatica.  Once the origin of the pain has been identified, appropriate stretching, muscle mobilization, and strengthening exercises along with hands on therapy will be provided to alleviate your symptoms.

If sciatica has recently been a “pain in your butt”, call MOMENTUM today to find out how we can help! 403-982-5600.

Surgery Prep

Can Physical Therapy Help Me Before Surgery?

Whether you are dealing with a new or old injury, physiotherapists often get asked the question “Will I need surgery for this?” for injuries.

Surgery is a process to help fix and injury, however, surgery should always be considered as the last option.

Some injuries (such as advanced hip and knee osteoarthritis) will require a surgery to reduce pain and restore quality of life.

Many injuries however, such as low back injuries or shoulder injuries, never will require a surgical intervention if the proper rehabilitation is completed.

At MOMENTUM Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab, we evaluate all injuries and design treatment programs to minimize your need for surgery.  In many cases, we can avoid surgery altogether for joint injuries.  If surgery is required, we can help strengthen your body before surgery to make your recovery easier.

If you are dealing with an injury, call MOMENTUM Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab today to find out how we can help prevent a surgery or better prepare you for your upcoming procedure.

Groin Pain

Can Physical Therapy Help My Pulled Groin?

The groin is comprised of a group of muscles that run down the inside of the thigh.  Groins are frequently injured during sports that involve changes in direction (such as hockey or soccer) or during a slip and fall (like on our icy side walks).

Pulled groins often feel like you have a sharp jabbing pain up into the high inner thigh.  More serious groin pulls will be accompanied by bruising and swelling.

At MOMENTUM Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab, we evaluate groin injuries by determining which muscle is injured and the severity of the injury. We then develop a treatment plan using hands on therapy, stretching, and muscle strengthening to fully rehab and recover your pulled muscle.  If you do not properly rehab a groin pull, these injuries can cause longstanding issues and are prone to re injury.

If you are having any groin or leg pain, call MOMENTUM Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab in Okotoks today to find out how we can get you moving again!

Pain in the Neck

Can Physical Therapy Help My Sore Neck?

Neck pain is an epidemic.  People struggle with neck pain for many reasons, but common causes are after long hours working at the computer, sitting in class, or staring down at their smart phone for too long.

Most of these symptoms are caused by postural issues that happen when back and neck muscles are allowed to weaken which makes other muscles tighten and get sore.

A MOMENTUM Physical Therapy physiotherapist will assess your posture and determine which muscles are not working well and which muscles are overworking.  Specific treatments unique to your situation will be used to relax the tightened muscles and corrective exercises will be used to restrengthen the weakened postural muscles.  This process will improve your posture and reduce your neck pain.

If you are struggling with any neck or back pain, call MOMENTUM Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab in Okotoks today to find out how we can help your sore neck! 403-982-5600.
