Golfer's Elbow

What is Golfer's Elbow?

Golfer’s elbow, or medial epicondylitis, is irritation to the muscles and tendons that attach to the inside of the elbow. It is typically caused by repetitive movements of the forearm and wrist and can be related to a number of different sports and work tasks, not just golfing! Symptoms include pain at the inside of the elbow, especially with actions like gripping and opening things like doorknobs or jars. Treating golfer’s elbow will include a combination of rest, hands on treatment to relieve the muscle tightness and pain, intramuscular stimulation (IMS) with needles, and specific stretches and exercises to strengthen the muscles to return to pain free function. You don’t have to keep living with pain. Call 403-982-5600 today to find out how our therapists can help you gain your Momentum back!

Tennis Elbow

What is Tennis Elbow?

Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, is the irritation of the muscles and tendons that start on the outside of the elbow. These muscles can help bend the elbow and extend the wrist and fingers. Tennis elbow is caused by repetitive movement or trauma and is characterized by sharp elbow pain with arm movement and a constant elbow ache at rest. Recovery from a tennis elbow occurs in two stages. First, healing of the injured tissue must be initiated. This is effectively managed by manual therapies including intramuscular stimulation (IMS), acupuncture, massage, and progressive stretching. Once healing has begun, tennis elbow will only fully recover if proper exercises are performed. Specific exercises allow the muscles and tendons to rebuild to a point where pain is eliminated and full function returns. If you are having pain on the outside of your elbow, our team of talented Physical Therapists at MOMENTUM Physical Therapy would be happy to help you out. Call 403-982-5600 today to find out how we can help you gain your Momentum back!

What is Physiotherapy?

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy, also called Physical Therapy, is a health care profession that is dedicated to treating injuries that have occurred in your bones, ligaments, muscles and/or tendons.  Current requirements to use the title of Physiotherapist, or Physical Therapist, require the completion of Master's of Science Degree in Physical Therapy.

When completing an assessment your therapist will look at your injury, your ability to complete specific movements, and talk to you about your pain.  At MOMENTUM your therapist will then use a variety of treatments to promote healing.  Examples of some treatments used include: manual therapy, specialized needling techniques like IMS and acupuncture, taping, joint mobilizations, and pain-relieving modalities.  You will also receive a customized home exercise program to maximize recovery and receive injury prevention education to assist in preventing re-injury.

If you're dealing with a current injury, or think you are at risk for developing an injury, call MOMENTUM today to see how we can help you gain your momentum back!
