Foot Pain

Can Physiotherapy Help with Foot Pain?

Foot pain is a very common injury that we treat at MOMENTUM Physical Therapy. At this time of year we see a lot of dancers who are experiencing foot and ankle pain as a result of competition season. Likewise, we also see a lot of people who develop foot pain as they transition from wearing boots to running shoes and flip flops.

Foot pain can be caused by many different things. This can include overuse of the tendons in the lower leg, irritation to the plantar fascia, sprained ligaments, or pulled muscles. Most foot pain is the result of overuse and requires some specific treatment to help the injured tissues heal.

Fortunately, physiotherapy is an effective tool to help manage and resolve your foot pain. At MOMENTUM Physical Therapy, we will assess your feet to determine what is giving you grief, deliver hands on treatment, and provide you with exercises to maximize your recovery.

If you are dealing with any foot pain, call MOMENTUM Physical Therapy in Okotoks to find out how we can put the spring back into your step. 403-982-5600

Mid-back pain is very common. Pain that is located between the shoulder blades, just below the base of the neck, is something that we deal with daily at MOMENTUM Physical Therapy.

Mid-back pain is characterized by pain and stiffness and can cause headaches, pain with turning, pain with deep breathing, and progressive soreness with sitting. Most of the time, this pain is created due to poor posture or as the result of an injury, such as whiplash after a car accident.

Fortunately, physical therapy is an extremely effective tool to help manage and resolve your mid back pain. At MOMENTUM Physical Therapy, we will assess your mid back to determine what is giving you grief, deliver effective hands on treatment, and provide you with home exercises to maximize your recovery.

Physiotherapy and Injuries

How Soon Should I Start Physiotherapy After My Injury?

Accidents and injuries happen. Everyday, people tweak their back shoveling snow, roll their ankle going down the stairs, or pull a muscle lifting a heavy parcel. Most peoples initial inclination is to wait their injury out to see if it will heal on its own. Unfortunately we often see that this “waiting” period does not produce the results that people desire.

With any injury, there are different stages of healing that the injured tissue must go through. During the acute (or new) injury phase, hands on treatment and specific exercises are your best option for a successful outcome. Failure to seek treatment during this acute phase will prolong your recovery and lower your healing potential.

At MOMENTUM Physical Therapy in Okotoks, our physical therapists are trained to identify new injures, provide hands to treatment to ease your pain, and to provide you with exercises to maximize the speed of your recovery. Seeking treatment right after sustaining an injury will always lead to a better outcome.

If you have recently sustained an injury to any part of your body, don't wait and call MOMENTUM Physical Therapy today to find out how we can speed up your recovery and get you back to your regular self. 1-403-982-5600

Osteoarthritis

Is it Safe to Exercise with Osteoarthritis?

Osteoarthritis occurs as joints begin to age and develop signs of wear and tear. Arthritic joints often feel stiff the the morning, sometimes swell, and often ache after using them.

A common myth surrounding osteoarthritis is that it is unsafe to exercise arthritic joints for fear that joint use will speed up the degenerative process. This fear causes people to rest, avoid exercise, and often leads to weight gain and muscle loss.

In reality, we find the opposite to be true. Regular physical activity and exercise SLOWS joint degeneration and PROTECTS arthritic joints from further damage. Proper exercise preserves joint function and can limit or prevent the need for medication use, injections, and surgeries.

At MOMENTUM Physical Therapy in Okotoks, we work with arthritis daily. Our physiotherapists are trained to identify arthritic joints, provide hands on treatments, and give you the exercises and tools that you need to preserve and maintain your joints.

If you have arthritis, or any other joint injury, call MOMENTUM Physical Therapy in Okotoks today to find out how we can help keep you moving for years to come. 1-403-982-5600.
