FAQs- Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy:
What happens at a pelvic floor physio appointment?
Your physiotherapist will be working with you one-on-one for the entire duration of your pelvic floor physiotherapy appointment. She will:
Conduct all assessment and treatment, one-on-one, in a private treatment room
Take your medical history to ensure understanding of what is occurring
Screen out conditions that may require medical intervention and will inform your doctor of any findings - with your consent
Discuss your lifestyle needs
Perform a thorough physical assessment which may include examination of your back, pelvis, sacrum, pelvic floor muscles, and nerve function
The gold standard for conducting a pelvic floor assessment includes completing an internal vaginal and/or rectal exam. An internal exam is done by our pelvic floor physiotherapist inserting one gloved finger into the vaginal or rectal canal. This allows her to fully assess the strength and function of your pelvic floor muscles and organs.
Prescribe an individualized treatment plan that will include one-on-one treatments, and custom exercises to ensure you reach optimal success!
Do I Need a Doctor Referral to Receive Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy Treatment?
No! As with all physiotherapy services in Alberta, a doctor referral is not required to access services. All pelvic floor assessments and treatments are also eligible for direct billing to your extended health benefit plan, should you have additional benefits through your employer. MOMENTUM is happy to offer direct billing to most insurance companies.
