FAQs- Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy:

What happens at a pelvic floor physio appointment?

Your physiotherapist will be working with you one-on-one for the entire duration of your pelvic floor physiotherapy appointment. She will:

  • Conduct all assessment and treatment, one-on-one, in a private treatment room

  • Take your medical history to ensure understanding of what is occurring

  • Screen out conditions that may require medical intervention and will inform your doctor of any findings - with your consent

  • Discuss your lifestyle needs

  • Perform a thorough physical assessment which may include examination of your back, pelvis, sacrum, pelvic floor muscles, and nerve function

  • The gold standard for conducting a pelvic floor assessment includes completing an internal vaginal and/or rectal exam. An internal exam is done by our pelvic floor physiotherapist inserting one gloved finger into the vaginal or rectal canal. This allows her to fully assess the strength and function of your pelvic floor muscles and organs.

  • Prescribe an individualized treatment plan that will include one-on-one treatments, and custom exercises to ensure you reach optimal success!

Do I Need a Doctor Referral to Receive Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy Treatment?

No! As with all physiotherapy services in Alberta, a doctor referral is not required to access services. All pelvic floor assessments and treatments are also eligible for direct billing to your extended health benefit plan, should you have additional benefits through your employer. MOMENTUM is happy to offer direct billing to most insurance companies.

Jumper's Knee

Can Physio help with Jumper’s Knee?

Do you have pain in the front of your knee just below your knee cap? Does your child complain of knee pain after sports that contain lots of running and jumping, like soccer or basketball?

Jumper's knee, or patellar tendonitis, is something that we treat daily in the clinic. Jumper's knee occurs when the tendon that holds the knee cap to the shin bone becomes irritated. We see this often in young athletes who are growing or adults who have recently increased their activity level. Fortunately, physical therapy is an extremely effective treatment to help heal this type of injury.

At MOMENTUM Physical Therapy in Okotoks, we treat jumper's knee with specific hands on techniques to ease the strain on the patellar tendon to reduce pain. We pair this hands on treatment with exercises that restrengthen the injured tendon and then build a plan to help return you back to the sport or activity you love.

If you are dealing with jumper's knee, or any knee pain at all, call MOMENTUM Physical Therapy in Okotoks today get get started on your recovery. 403-982-5600

Numbness down the leg is something we see daily in our clinic. Leg numbness can be very frustrating to live with, and fortunately, physio can often help quickly alleviate your discomfort.

At MOMENTUM Physical Therapy in Okotoks, we treat leg numbness by first determining where your numbness is coming from. Once your physical therapist has determined the cause of your discomfort, they will begin treating its root source. Treatment for leg numbness will always include hands on treatment and home exercises.

Please be sure to make note of what intensifies your numbness and where in your leg you feel your discomfort - this helps us quickly map your injury and guide our treatment.
