When Should I Start Physio?

When Should I Start with Physiotherapy After an Injury?

At MOMENTUM, we often hear people say “I wish I would have started with physiotherapy sooner”.

Unfortunately, we often see people who try to wait out the healing process and get stuck partway on the pathway to healing. This can result in shoulders that stay sore for months, backs that have a lingering ache, and pulled muscles that just don’t fully feel right.

Often, if these injuries had been dealt with sooner, they would have been fully resolved after a number of hands-on physiotherapy sessions at MOMENTUM.

We always recommend that people seek treatment for injuries as soon as possible by a physiotherapist at MOMENTUM Physical Therapy in Okotoks. By kickstarting the healing process, we can efficiently move you through your healing process and return you to your usual self. Waiting out the injury can lead to delayed healing and chronic injuries that take much more effort to heal.

Injuries in life happen... but MOMENTUM Physical Therapy is here for you to help get you moving again.

If you are dealing with any injury, new or old, call MOMENTUM Physical Therapy today to find out how we can fast track your healing process. 403-982-5600

Does Physiotherapy Help Shoulder Pain?

Can Physiotherapy Help with Shoulder Pain?

Are you having pain in your shoulder while getting dressed, sleeping on your side, driving your car, carrying groceries, or reaching overhead?

This is something that we help people deal with daily at MOMENTUM Physical Therapy.

The shoulder is a complex joint that has multiple bones, ligaments, and muscles that can become injured due to overuse (for example, by washing the windows or shovelling snow) or by a traumatic injury (such as a fall or a heavy lift).

At MOMENTUM Physical Therapy in Okotoks, our physiotherapists are trained to examine sore shoulders. We will determine what is injured and why it is causing you pain with a comprehensive assessment. Once we have determined the nature of your injury, we will put together a rehab program consisting of personalized exercises and hands on treatment to help you meet your goals. Sore shoulders often fully recover in 6-8 sessions once they start down the right path.

If you are dealing with any shoulder discomfort, call MOMENTUM Physical Therapy today. Don’t let a sore shoulder slow you down this fall. 403-982-5600

Patellar Femoral Pain Syndrome

What is Patellar Femoral Pain Syndrome?

Patellar Femoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS) is a very common, but complicated way to describe, pain that occurs from knee cap issues.

Do you have pain when climbing stairs? Do your knees get sore if you walk for prolonged distances? Do you have knee pain when you jump or hop? You likely are dealing with some level of PFPS!

PFPS occurs when the knee cap does not track perfectly in the groove it was designed to. This poor tracking causes pain and limits activity.

Fortunately, physical therapy is an effective tool to resolve PFPS!

At MOMENTUM Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab, located in Okotoks, our physical therapists are trained to evaluate sore knees to determine if knee cap tracking is the cause of your pain and how to best manage your discomfort. With some hands on treatment, specific exercises, and corrective taping, we can teach your body how to better control your knees and prevent your knee pain. Most people are often surprised to find that their knee pain is actually caused by weakness in the hips!

If you are dealing with PFPS, or any knee pain, call MOMENTUM today to find out how we can get that knee feeling better again. 403-982-5600

Swimmer's Shoulder

What is Swimmer’s Shoulder?

Swimmer’s shoulder is a common condition that many professional and recreational swimmers develop. Swimmer’s shoulder occurs when rotator cuff muscles begin to get irritated with poor swimming strokes.

If poor swimming mechanics go on for a prolonged period of time, the tendons of the rotator cuff muscles begin to fray and get inflamed. This often leads to increased pain and forces the swimmer out of the pool for an extended period of time.

Fortunately, physical therapy is an effective treatment to resolve swimmer’s shoulder and return our athletes to the pool.

At MOMENTUM Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab, located in Okotoks, our physical therapists are trained to evaluate sore shoulders to determine what tendons are irritated and how to best manage them. With some hands on treatment, specific exercises, and corrective taping, we can teach the body how to heal the irritated shoulder tendon. Once the pain has resolved, we can then talk about strategies on how to prevent swimmers shoulder from returning.

If you are dealing with swimmer’s shoulder, or any other shoulder pain, call MOMENTUM today to find out how we can get your shoulder feeling 100% again. 403-982-5600

Can Physical Therapy Help Me BEFORE Surgery?

Can Physio Help BEFORE Surgery?

Sometimes we are faced with the unfortunate reality of needing a surgery. Maybe you have torn your ACL and need a knee surgery, arthritis in the hip and are awaiting a hip replacement, or have a dislocating shoulder and are awaiting a shoulder stabilization surgery.

There are numerous pre surgical conditions that are usually accompanied with discomfort and a long waiting period between the injury date and the surgical day.

We often get asked if there is something that can be done before surgery to assist in the recovery. The answer is a resounding YES!

Pre surgical rehab is a type of treatment that we specialize in at MOMENTUM Physical Therapy. Our goal is to teach you about your upcoming procedure, provide you with some hands on treatment to ease your discomfort, and to get you started on some specific exercises to maximize your healing potential for after surgery.

We find that the stronger your body is before surgery, the better the recovery is after.

If surgery for a joint or muscle is on your horizon, call MOMENTUM Physical Therapy, in Okotoks, today to find out how we can help set you up for surgical success. 403-982-5600
