Lower Back Pain

Lower Back Pain? Physio can help!

Low back pain can result from many different sources.  Muscle spasms, sprained joints, inflamed discs, and irritated nerves can all cause low back pain and leg pain.

Fortunately, research shows that Physical Therapy is one of the most effective tools to manage and resolve low back pain!

Effective Physical Therapy involves a detailed assessment identifying your injury, a treatment plan that includes hands on therapy, and a home exercise program to keep the pain away.  This process will reduce your dependence on pain medication and help avoid other procedures including injections and surgery.

Come find out how we can help resolve that back that causes you to lean on the grocery cart at the store, stumble around in pain in the morning, or wince after that golf swing.  Call the leading physical therapy clinic in Okotoks, MOMENTUM Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab, today at 403-982-5600.

Separated Shoulder

What is a separated shoulder?

Shoulder Separation

A shoulder separation occurs when there are tears in the ligaments on the top of the shoulder. This can happen through a traumatic blow to the top of the shoulder or by falling onto an outstretched arm. There are different grades of shoulder separation that depend on how many ligaments are involved.

Treatment for shoulder separation begins with assessing the degree of injury to the ligaments involved, as well as ruling out other injuries that can cause shoulder pain. A Momentum Physical Therapist can assess and determine the cause of shoulder pain and provide appropriate treatment. If the cause is shoulder separation, treatment will include rest, taping to help offload the joint, manual techniques such as massage, intramuscular stimulation (IMS), and specific stretches and exercises to strengthen the muscles that stabilize the shoulder.

If you are dealing with any shoulder pain, call Momentum Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab at 403-982-5600 to see how we can help!

Exercise and Injury

How important is exercise for my injury recovery?

Appropriate exercise application is vital for any recovery process.

During an injury (both new or old) the body undergoes damage to ligaments, tendons, muscles, nerves and/or joints.  This break down leads pain, dysfunction, and ultimately injury.

There are multiple ways health care providers aid in the recovery process of an injury, but exercise is the most vital component.  Proper exercises provide feedback to the body to help reestablish health to the injured tissue. Research from the world of Physical Therapy shows time and time again that proper exercise programs are extremely effective ways to manage many common injures (such as low back pain , rotator cuff strains, and whiplash injuries). Without appropriate exercise, the body does not properly heal soft tissue injuries, develop proper joint stability, or effectively develop lasting joint movement.

If you are recovering from an injury, ensure that you are exercising.   Without exercise, you will not recover to your maximal potential.   If you are curious to see how exercises can help manage any ache or pain you are experiencing, call MOMENTUM Physical Therapy at 403-982-5600 today!

Pulled Muscles

What is a Pulled Muscle?

The human body has hundreds of muscles.  The muscles that people are most familiar with are the ones that move bones - such as the biceps that move the elbow or the hamstrings that move the knee.

When a muscle is overloaded or overstretched, it begins to break down.  This process can occur at varying degrees but involves tearing of the muscular tissue.  In order for the muscle to heal, the tissue must undergo an initial period of rest.  During this rest period, the muscle must be moved to encourage blood flow but not overloaded to a point of further damage.  After a brief period of rest, the muscle must be stretched, stimulated, and strengthened.  This process can take anywhere from 2-8 weeks, depending on the severity of the injury, to restore the muscle to full capacity.

If not properly treated, a muscle strain can turn into a weak point that is vulnerable to re-injury.  If you are dealing with a new or old muscle strain, call MOMENTUM Physical Therapy today at 403-982-5600 to find out how our therapists can help heal any sore and strained muscles.
